Makanah is an extremely good-looking and athletic nine-year-old gelding. He raced three times for Hamdan Al Maktoum before being purchased by Axom at the Doncaster Sales in 2017.

Makanah has developed into a smart sprinter over the last few seasons and has won seven races for his Axom owners to date. He tends to run in big sprint handicaps at some of the top tracks in the country, such as York and Newmarket. His run at York, in May 2023, was extremely encouraging, finishing fifth of 21 in a hot handicap. He has finished third and fourth in the last two runnings of the Gosforth Park Cup at Newcastle, in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Makanah put up one of his best performances of last season when finishing a close fourth at York's Ebor Meeting in a competitive handicap. He will hopefully continue to run well in similar contests in 2024.

Makanah is out of a winning sprint mare and by Mayson (son of Champion Sprinter Invincible Spirit), who won the Group 1 July Cup and the Group 3 Palace House Stakes as a four-year-old, and is the sire of the winner of the 2020 Group 1 July Cup, Oxted.
