Ziga Boy is a ten-year-old grey gelding by Califet out of Our Ziga. He is in training with Alan King.

This talented grey gelding was purchased by Axom from France in 2014 and recorded his first win in Axom colours later that year, in the Silver Buck Handicap Chase at Wincanton. He had a slow start to the 2015/16 season, but came on to win back-to-back races at Doncaster, which included his first Listed win, the Sky Bet Chase (known as the Great Yorkshire Chase). Ziga Boy returned to Doncaster the following season, to finish third in a handicap chase, before winning his second consecutive Great Yorkshire Chase in January 2017.

His performance earned him an entry in the 2017 Grand National, but sadly he missed his opportunity after suffering a tendon injury while working on the gallops just days before the big race. Ziga Boy has had a year off and has done very well during his rehabilitation. He is due to return to training later this summer and the main aim is the 2019 Grand National at Aintree.

Chase rating: 145
Note: On 22 January 2019, there were 2,875 horses with an official BHA chase rating, the lowest being 44 and the highest 175. The median average is currently 113.

'Ziga Boy has recovered well from his tendon injury and we are looking forward to him returning to training. We would like to aim for the 2019 Grand National.' Alan King
