Lifeboat Mona is a seven-year-old bay mare by Kayf Tara out of Astar Love. She is in training with Paul Nicholls.
Lifeboat Mona is an attractive mare by Kayf Tara, who won her only point-to-point start at Fairyhouse in May 2014 and, since joining Paul Nicholls at Ditcheat, she has gone from strength to strength.
She won her first start under Rules at Warwick, before landing a Listed bumper at Huntingdon in December 2014. She then won at Wincanton on her hurdling and seasonal debut in December 2015, and returned to Wincanton to win again in February. She missed her intended engagement at Newbury at the beginning of April after suffering a slight injury on the gallops. She is fine now and will return to training later in the summer.
Lifeboat Mona is incredibly athletic and her sire is well known for producing excellent jumpers. Some of his best progeny include Hennessy Gold Cup winner Carruthers, Grade 1 Punchestown Gold Cup winner Planet Of Sound and Grade 2 winning novice chaser Mad Max.
Paul has enjoyed a fantastic career so far and his top horses include See More Business, Kauto Star, Denman, Neptune Collonges, Master Minded and Silviniaco Conti to name just a few. He has trained Edgardo Sol, Far West, Irving, Tagrita and Vibrato Valtat to win Graded or Listed races for Axom and his record is second to none.
Hurdle rating: 144
Note: On 5 July 2017, there were 3,580 horses with an official BHA hurdle rating, the lowest being 35 and the highest 169. The median average is currently 107.
'Lifeboat Mona has proved to be a very decent mare and it was no surprise to see her win so well over hurdles last season as she has plenty of ability. I would expect further improvement this season and the aim is to get some form in Listed and Graded races.' Paul Nicholls
